Research Activities

Methods and technologies for knowledge logistics and for management of virtual resource networks.

Recent Results

1. A context management methodology oriented to intelligent support of decision making in the open information environment based on such technologies as ontology management and intelligent agents has been proposed [5-7, 9-18, 20]. The methodology (i) assumes accumulation, storage, update and modification of the context data, (ii) supports context formation techniques based on integration of accumulated data and existing context, (iii) includes methods of creating consistent context interpretation, user understandable knowledge representation, user interaction initiation when a conflict situation or a necessity of a comparative situation analysis arise or in other cases requiring user intervention.
The essence of the methodology is dynamic integration of interacting object contexts in decision support systems (the user, the request, the application and the environment) into the task context in order to solve the task as a constraint satisfaction problem. Context representation in the form of ontology has been put into the base of the methodology that simplifies context interpretation, reuse and adaptation for creating personalized intelligent decision support environments in the areas of research, education, e-government and e-business (large scale manufacturing, retail and logistics systems).
2. As a part of the multi-agent approach to knowledge logistics called "Knowledge Source Network" a unified notation of object-oriented constraint networks for ontology description been proposed and mapping rules for setting correspondences between terms of the application ontology and terms of the knowledge source and / or request ontologies have been developed [1-6, 8, 11, 18-20]. General principles of ontology-driven knowledge representation model creation have been studied; state-of-the-art review of the ontology operations has been performed; implementation of main operations and their application to ontology management based on the object-oriented constraint network formalism have been described; comparison of the developed knowledge representation notation against the notation of DAML+OIL has been done. Application of this model makes it possible to significantly reduce the "task statement – task solution" cycle due to the direct use of the model as an input for the constraint satisfaction problem solver.
3. Architecture and inference engines of dynamic expert systems for control of logical-dynamical processes have been proposed, which used worked out earlier based on rules model for specification of concurrent processes of different dynamics. A research prototype of an expert control system shell has been worked out. With help of the prototype several test models of control expert systems and a model of a real industry installation have been developed and investigated. Results of the investigations make it possible to assert that the approach considered is applicable to real production processes control system development.
